WONDER -BOOK REVIEW

The book I have read over the last few weeks is ‘Wonder’ by R.J Palacio, the publisher is ‘Corgi’ and it has 315 pages.

The book is about a young boy named August, or as his parents call him ‘Auggy’. He has a condition, which his parents refer to as ‘Small anomalies’, in which his face is deformed, but his sister Via does not like putting it that way. He has been home-schooled all his life, until his family finally decides to send him to a ‘normal’ school, but when he arrives there, many of the other children are horrified by his face.

R.J Palacio was born on July 13 1963 and now lives in Brooklyn, her debut novel, Wonder, has been on the New York Times bestseller list since March, 2012

The genre of the book is literature and fiction, and the morals of the book are kindness, friendship, courage and self-acceptance.

The characters are:

-August who is the main character

-Via: August’s sister

-Jack and Summer: Both August’s friends

-Mum: Very over-protective

-Dad: Wants the best for August

There is a movie based on this film directed by Stephen Chbosky, which is very good but I suggest you read the book first!

I recommend this book because its great for all ages and it will make you want to laugh and cry. It also sends out a good message about kindness.

I recommend this book to Ariana and Vera P, because I think it’s great for your English and I think you would really enjoy it.

STOP MOTION

The other day I saw a documental about stop motion. It is an animation technique that gives “life” to static objects through photographing them and moving them a little bit, every frame. When you play these photos at a speed of 24 frames per second, they will seem like they are moving.

The documental also talked about Ray Harryhausen, a stop motion animator, (1920, USA). It said that he was good at drawing, sculpturing, modelling and giving life to creatures.

Ray Harryhausen was inspired to do stop motion by the film “KING KONG” in 1933, when he was 13 years old. He liked to put mythology, dinosaurs, fiction monsters and flying alien saucers in his films. All his work was handcrafted, he never used computers.

 

 

 

 

 

Many films by Ray Harryhausen are:

– The beast from 20.000 Fathous

– 7th voyage of Simbad

– Jason and the Argonauts

– Clash of Titans

– One million years B.C

 

He was a big influence on great directors like Steven Spielberg (E.T), George Lucas (Star Wars), Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) and Nick Park (The Wrong Trousers).

Ray Harryhausen retired because the cinema was starting to change. Movies where starting to be different, with violence, and with computers, directors started to make another type of film

A VECES LA VERDAD PUEDE DOLER

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A veces la mentira puede doler menos que la verdad, pero entonces, ¿es bueno siempre mentir?

Pensamos que hay que decir la verdad antes que la mentira porque la verdad por muy dolorosa que sea hay que contarla.

La mentira puede ser más dolorosa que la verdad cuando descubres que te han mentido.

Si dices siempre la verdad con sinceridad lograras tener muchos amigos y lograras conseguir tus metas.

En conclusión creemos que la verdad por muy dolorosa que sea terminará siendo más beneficiosa que la mentira.

¿VIVIR EN EL CAMPO O EN LA CIUDAD?

Hoy en día a la hora de elegir donde vas a vivir es muy importante saber que lugar te gusta más, por ello vamos a hablar de las ventajas y desventajas  de la ciudad y el campo.

En primer lugar, en la ciudad hay más cantidad de servicios, es decir, con más posibilidad de ocio como los cines, las boleras o restaurantes. Además de las diferentes excursiones culturales que podrán realizar a museos, teatros, centros históricos y demás. Por otra parte, otros servicios que podrás tener serán los sanitarios (centros médicos, hospitales, ambulancias…)que podrían acceder rápidamente a tu casa.

Encontrar trabajo, universidad, colegio, instituto etc. no es complicado en la ciudad ya que podrás elegir algo que te guste y se adapte a tus  condiciones. Por otra parte, en la ciudad el transporte público es más accesible y continuo, lo que te permite desplazarte con más facilidad.

La vida social en la ciudad se hace más fácil tienes mayores ofertas para asistir a lugares públicos para realizar actividades y las conexiones a internet son mejores.

También podrás visitar más frecuentemente a tus seres queridos ya sea porque viven en tu ciudad o porque tardas menos en ir a verlos porque los transportes son más rápidos.

Sin embargo, en la ciudad podrás padecer más estrés ya sea por tu trabajo, el tráfico (un tema importante en la ciudad)…Además en la ciudad hay más suicidios, accidentes, robos,… que en el campo.

Por otra parte, los precios son más altos en la ciudad. Otro de los inconvenientes de vivir en la ciudad, es la contaminación, muy perjudicial para el ser humano y el medio ambiente.

En el campo puedes ver más animales, vivir en un espacio más abierto y menos contaminado. También en el campo podrás adoptar más fácilmente a una mascota ya que tendrá más espacio para correr en libertad. Además tu nivel de estrés será menor, los precios son más bajos y hay menos delitos.

En mi opinión, es preferible la vida en el campo, es mejor por todos sus pros, pero si fuera una persona mayor es mejor vivir en la ciudad por los servicios médicos que te ofrecen rápida y fácilmente.

THE TWITS

During this term, in the English area I read “The Twits”, by Roald Dahl.

The book is about a bitter elderly couple called Mr and Mrs Cretin who like to embitter other’s life. They also attack each other. For this reason they kidnapped a kind and lovely family of monkeys. They keep them in a terrible jail.  But one day, with the arrival of a strange animal, everything changes and the twits get what they deserve.

I have loved this book because it is very funny and it has many adventures. Also its author, Roald Dahl, fascinates me since I have read many of his books. Every book I have read I have loved it, and I take the risk of saying that Roald Dahl is my favourite author.

The illustration in the book are also fabulous. The illustrator, Quentin Blake draws beautifully from my point of view.

The book has a table of contents that goes by chapters. When opening the book, we can see an introduction where the main book characters are introduced to readers.

I would recommend this book to people who likes Roald Dahl adventures, like my friend Adriana.

VERDAD O MENTIRA

Tesis: Es mejor decir la verdad que mentir

TESTIMONIO: Mark Twain en La decadencia del arte de mentir: «Nadie podría vivir con alguien que dijera la verdad de forma habitual; por suerte, ninguno de nosotros ha tenido nunca que hacerlo»

 

TEXTO: LOS BENEFICIOS DE LA VERDAD

 

Todas las personas del Universo han mentido alguna vez, tanto con buenas intenciones como con malas, pero normalmente es mejor decir la verdad.

En primer lugar, si dices la verdad la gente podrá confiar en ti más fácilmente. Además, si no mientes tendrás menos problemas a lo largo de la vida.

Por otra parte, en caso de que mientas para no herir a las personas o sus sentimientos, nosotros creemos que sería correcto mentir. Tal como dijo Mark Twain nadie podría vivir con alguien que dijera la verdad de forma habitual.

Finalmente, hemos llegado a la conclusión, de que normalmente es preferible decir la verdad aunque no en todos los casos.

 

¿SON NECESARIOS LOS ZOOLÓGICOS?

LOS ANIMALES SON SERES VIVOS Y LIBRES

Los animales tienen derechos como los humanos como aparece en la declaración universal de los derechos del animal aprobados por la O. N. U. (Organización de las Naciones Unidas). Como dijo Abraham Lincoln: “Estoy a favor de los derechos de los animales tanto como de los derechos humanos. Es la única manera de ser un humano completo. “

Los zoos deben ser cerrados y en sus terrenos crear una reserva de animales con problemas o enfermedades y ayudarlos a curarse.

En primer lugar según el artículo cuatro de la declaración universal de los derechos del animal dice: “a) Todo animal perteneciente a una especie salvaje tiene derecho a vivir libre en su propio ambiente natural…  b) Toda privación de libertad, incluso aquella que tenga fines educativos es contraria a ese derecho” por consiguiente no podemos encerrar a los animales.

En segundo lugar según la asociación Adena/wwf solo unos pocos zoos españoles cumplen las funciones de educación e investigación por lo que en los zoológicos los animales no están bien cuidados.

Por ultimo ha habido muchas denuncias de parques zoológicos por incumplir la ley. (Leer noticia 10 de Junio de 2019 en el periódico 20 minutos) se demuestra que se maltrata a muchos animales.

En conclusión opino  que los zoológicos deberían estar cerrados y de sus ruinas hacer una reserva de animales con problemas o que se encuentren en peligro.

Do you prefer going to the theatre or going to the cinema?

Today, all over the world we can find cinemas or theatres. Usually, the theatre is a big room where actors and actresses act out representing a story or a play.

On the other hand, the cinema is similar to the theatre but the actors and actresses appear on a screen, they record a film and later, it is a project on a screen so that people can watch it.

In my opinion, the theatre is better. It has a special atmosphere and old buildings and it has big spaces inside.

Instead, in the theatre actors and actresses act but not on a screen and you see everything better because they act in live.

The advantages of going to the cinema are that for example with glasses you can see it in 3D, and it also seems that you one inside the movie, you can familiariarize yourself with other languages, because if you are trying to learn a language, there is a good chance, or having conversation topics you can also learn, for example there is a movie the middle ages you can learn words from middle ages.

The disadvantages of going to the cinema are that you can’t see the actors in live. Usually, the behaviour of the people is badly than the theatre. There is not communication between the actors, the person can eat or drink and make noise.

The advantages of going to the theatre are that you can learn a lot, you can see the actors and how they act, and for example if you want to be an actor or an actress you can learn a lot.

The disadvantages of going to the theatre are that you can’t choose the play because there is only one. There are only one or two performances per day. It is possible to cancel the play if the actor is, for example, ill.

In conclusion, both things, going to the theatre and the cinema are good because some advantages of going to the cinema and the theatre are very good, then so they are equal.

AUTOENTREVISTAS DESDE EL CONFINAMIENTO DE CELIA Y ORIOL

Me llamo Oriol Moya Pardo y llevo 82 días, 11 horas y 48 minutos confinado.

Estos días los he pasado desde el principio con mis padres. El 28 de abril empecé a pasear por el monte con un amigo y con mi madre, y a partir del 22 de mayo ya pude estar con mis abuelos.

Paparazzi; “Sr. Oriol, ¿qué le preocupa del confinamiento?”

Oriol; “Que no puedo jugar con mis amigos y eso me aburre. Yo estoy acostumbrado a estar muy activo y no me gusta pasar tanto tiempo encerrado en casa”

Un fan del cine de Oriol; “¿Crees que tu vida va a cambiar después de esto?

Oriol; “No, porque de momento todas las actividades que hacía antes de esto, las quiero seguir haciendo, eso sí, con las medidas de prevención necesarias, impuestas por el COVID-19”.
